- In a district of approximately 46,000 students, approximately 30% of Seattle students fail to graduate from high school and in 2009 fewer than 65% of students graduated “on time”, within four years.
- Washington State is ranked 45th in the nation in spending $7,688 per pupil compared with the national average of $9,963
- The Seattle Public Schools have documented that students from certain groups (i.e. color, refugees/immigrants, special needs, low-income) are more at risk of not meeting achievement standards. This gap has not been reduced over the past few years.

- High school graduates earn 24 percent more money over their lifetime than nonhigh school graduates. Graduation from high school was shown to be related to reduced levels of adult crime.
